I was recently checking my gmail archive when I found something interesting to talk about ... The Computer Architecture discussion thread !
Well... in our Computer Architecture course we were required to submit a research about any processor we want to provided that It's not older than 5 years. It should summarize and highlight all the technical details as well as the topic we covered throughout the course. The deadline for submission was one week after the end of the semester (YES!! , after the end of it lol ... dun ask me xD). Personally, I had no problems at all as I exactly knew what I'm gonna talk about .. The AWESOME corei7. I was like "Yes!! now all the tech reviews I read and time I spent will finally pay off =D"
However, most of my colleagues panic'd. Some didn't know where to get the documentation from. Some, couldn't understand all these detailed technical datasheets. Another group didn't have the time to read them as they were traveling somewhere to enjoy the summer vacation. Others were either influenced by their hate and fear of the course itself or just weren't interested in hardware at all. while the rest, were just so tired and fed up and tired after a long stressful semester.
And this is how the Computer architecture thread started on the German University in Cairo - Computer science students private Google group that was made by the students to help each other and remain in contact. To be honest, I wasn't convinced by the idea of the group in the beginning (All I could notice is panic and more panic about everything) and was barely participating until, one day I was stuck before the management exam and desperately seeking the lecture slides that I found on the google group. That saved me (lol kinda, I didn't read them anyways cuz I'm not convinced that Engineering students should study management xD)
Back to our topic, I started receiving emails from a group of friends asking for help and then I received a couple of phone calls for the same reason. Loai 1st then Mohamed Nagy 2nd and then hussein who told me to share my knowledge and post content on the google group. I was so lazy to post stuff actually .. And I already know that I'm a bad tutor. I mean I cannot explain my ideas the way I want them to be understood most of the time. After thinking, I thought I should give it a try .. This group is here for a good reason and we - Computer science Students - Should help each other (We are friends and that's a good reason more than anything). I actually liked the conversation so much and was glad everybody became interested and started working and sharing instead of complaining and spreading panic lol. Nevertheless, I'm so proud that I could help and even more proud that I decided to participate despite all the tempting things I could do in my summer vacation ;) <I missed one of the daily beach trance parties but it was k =D>
Oh ... forgot somethin?
The Conversation Link (Might take sometime to load, It's a big one)
PS: My messages are in green, as always =D
Please review me , was I able to help? was I able to explain my ideas?
